After our first couple of nights at Kevlavik, we travelled on to Grindavik. There we found the very nice camping ground after a challenging ride for the bikers. It was very windy, a bit wet, and the road was unsealed. It wasn't a particularly long ride, but it was tough. The scenery is surreal landscape after surreal landscape. I have the luxury of stopping to take photos wherever I want to, and spend some time reading in the car waiting for the riders to catch up to me. We had lunch at the camping ground, and then, having made sure the tents wouldn't blow away, we went out to the Blue Lagoon swimming complex. It's been especially constructed. Wonderful complex with cafe, restaurant, showers, toilets, PEOPLE++++. It was heaven on a stick!! Soaked there for ages---the air temperature was very cold, so we didn't want to get out. We plastered some sort of beautifying mud onto our faces, but frankly we didn't notice much improvement in looks, but the feels of our skin was wonderful!!!
We spent a very blustery night in Grindavik. Heavy winds and rain most of the night. In fact the riders decided it would be nice to take the car today for at least some of the distance.
Again the scenery was surreal---huge fields of lava, with moss, makes the landscape lookk moonlike---in fact some of the lunar training (USA) was done in Iceland.
When I have a little more time I'll load on some photos.
We stopped at a very small cafe (in a little caravan) and had a delicious toasted sandwich meal. It was REALLY cold out in the wind, and all our thermal layers were well used!!! I think we all had about four or five layers of clothes, and this is summer!!!!
I'll sign off at this stage, because I must catch up to the riders. The lovely lady at the info centre has provided me with a strong black coffee. I don't have my diary with me right at this moment, so the minute details are missing today. We are all well, and coping with the difficulties !!
