Vik--the aftermath of the glacial flooding

This part of the road was closed when we first started our trip. Fortunately we were travelling the other way around Iceland, and did not have to be delayed or evacuated. Many people were evacuated from their homes and traffic was diverted for a number of days. The bridge was completely washed away, and a new bridge (temporary) was installed in a couple of days.
One of our homes for the night recently. Lots of little flies which made having our meals interesting.

DUMPSTERS

Dumpsters are a feature of the landscape everywhere in Iceland. Camping grounds, always have a dumpster, as well as places for the recycling of plastics, paper and glass. Sometimes they are even right out in the middle of nowhere.Mainly blue or green in colour. This large truck was emptying a smaller dumspster into the large one on its back.

Playing Scrabble

Jane and I have played many games of Scrabble since we've been in Iceland, and she is beating me almost all the time. This is a game we played when we were at Hrifunes in a guesthouse for the night. We played with an Icelandic set, which had all the unusual Icelandic letters, which we took our. Left us with an interesting selection of letters, and the letters all had different values from the English version..
